Holy Baptism: The Door to Life in the Spirit

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of the sacraments by which we are born again of water and the Holy Spirit, by which we receive in a new and spiritual life, the dignity of adoption as sons and daughters of the God and heirs to the kingdom of God.

For Parents and Godparents:

When a baby is brought for Baptism, the first and primary sacrament, it is the parents and godparents who must give assurances that the grace that God imparts in the sacrament will be lived and that the child will be brought up in the practice of the Faith. This means going to Mass and learning about the Faith. It is for this reason that the Church takes the preparation of parents and godparents very seriously. The preparation is not to celebrate the liturgy of baptism, although it is a reason to celebrate, but to understand the consequences of the baby receiving the sacrament.

What do I need to do?

Parents must be registered and active in our parish for at least three months. Pre-baptismal instruction is required for parents and godparents. Sponsors/Godparents must be:

  • Practicing Catholics in good standing, registered in a parish and be able to certify this.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older and have received all of the Initiation Sacraments - Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
  • If married, the marriage must be a valid Catholic marriage. Please contact the Parish Office to make arrangements.
